It is used to cleanse the sould from evil and sin
Why does the priest use water in baptism
To bless individuals
Baptismal candle
A candle is given to one of the parents or God-parents who light it from the great Paschal candle. This is a sign of hope that the child will live their life the way Jesus wants them to.
The promises
The child is brought to the font with the parents and God- parents. The priest asks them some questions and together they say ‘I do.’
Blessings
The Lord’s Prayer is said and the priest blesses the child, the child’s parents and all the friends and family in the church
