“Darkness” - just after Macbeth and Banquo leave the witches. He clearly believes that the witches are evil and linked to the devil in some way. He is very logical and levelheaded not to trust them - contrasts with Macbeth

“Honest” and “deepest” - he thinks the witches tell the truth about small things but lie about things that could have bad consequences. Thinks witches are untrustworthy and evil.

“Noble” and “worthy” - Banquo is respected and well looked up to by soldiers and royals. Similar to Macbeth

“Weïrd sisters” - Banquo seems to trust Macbeth he can open up to him about his worries. Ironic as Macbeth goes onto kill him later on in the play

“God”- he stands with God and will have him on his side when he gets revenge on who killed Duncan. Shows his loyalty.
Ironic as he also swore loyalty to Macbeth who killed Duncan

“Foully” - Banquo becoming suspicious of Macbeth and suspects he may have become king by doing some bad things. Shows Banquos intelligence and that he is still loyal to Duncan

“Root” and “father” - metaphor - links to the witches predictions and now Banquo seems to trust them too
“Ay, my ____ lord” - act 3 scene 1
“Good” - still respectful to his friend Macbeth despite his suspicions. The audience would like Banquo

“Fly” - repetition shows his fear as he tells his son to flee the murderers he is killed shortly afterwards.
Important for story as Banquo’s children are a threat to Macbeth

“Withered” and “wild” - adjectives - Banquo thinks the witches are ugly and scary - supernatural.
He is logical and can see them for what they really are - contrasts with Macbeth who is blinded by greed.

“Women” - Banquo disgusted by them as they have beards. Also probably scared of them because of this.

“Treachery” - panic as he realises that he has been betrayed and has had murderers sent out to kill him.
