bank1 Flashcards
Describe two methods to overcome friction when trying to manoeuvre heavy loads:
Fluids such as oil / washing up liquid between contact surfaces.
Rollers such as scaffold bars between contact surfaces.
Reduce surface contact such as lifting one side to reduce the surface contact.
what is the mechanical advantage in the diagram?
2:1
Describe your safety considerations
a) Prior to using and
b) During use of the Stanley hydraulic CO25 Cut Off Saw
Give tool a good visual prior to using
Check saw blade is correct size, type and condition for task
Check security of centre nut
Check guard is in correct position for task
Give blade a ‘ring test’ to check blade quality
Run tool for at least 30 secs prior to use
Ensure legs and feet are well clear of rotating blade
Be aware of the positioning of the hydraulic hose Ensure body positioning is correct
Control water flow and water hose if not in use
Maintain safety zone to the front and rear of tool operations
Ensure centre nut spacers are kept clear of materials etc Correct PPE
The tool should be run for approx 30 secs after use in order to clear any debris/slurry.
List 3 of your operational considerations prior to using the DS 11 saw in confined space
Give tool a good visual prior to using
Ensure chain is fitted the right way and is adjusted
Must maintain sufficient water supply
Consider the water run off in terms of casualty and building stability
Have tools available to maintain tool
Wear correct PPE and protective aprons Improve working conditions
Consider projection of chain on other side
Consider the sequence of cuts, (bottom cut not last)
Consider body positioning/ manual handling Run tool for at least 30 secs prior to use
Consider the use of bevels(but not too severe)
Ensure bottom cut is not through a horizontal rebar
The tool should be run for approx 30 secs after use in order to clear any slurry.
You wish to lift a reinforced concrete load. The load measures 3m (L) x 1.5m (W) x 300mm (D). What is its weight in Kilograms?
L x W x D x 2400Kgs/m3 = Weight in Kilograms
3 x 1.5 x 0.3 x 2400Kgs/m3 = 3240 Kilograms
A. Alert warns operator that units battery life is low, around six hours left dependant on battery type.
B. Rumble filter allows low frequency suppression
C.Hiss filter offers high frequency suppression.
D. Microphone inlet; operators need to direct this area to allow communications with the casualty.
Filters on the Delsar are intended to add clarity to the sound in the earphones and ideally should be set at what point during a Delsar sweep.
The filters should be set at the beginning of the sweep in an ideal situation
This is what we would hope to find at an operational incident, this will allow an equal level of noise travel as the operator progresses across the pile.
what are the 3 shore classes?
- 1- Stable in one dimension (‘T’ Spot)
- 2- Stable in two dimensions (2 post vertical)
- 3- Stable in three dimensions two shores braced together)
State the Uses for metal in building construction

define safe working load
The maximum load that the equipment may safely lift.
As assessed by the competent person which an item of lifting equipment may raise, lower or suspend under the particular service conditions.
What are the working load limits for anchors
Rotating lifting point?
Anchor eye?
1500kg direct pull. 750kg at 90º
340kg
What type of breach has this block been marked for?
step breach
When dealing with a USAR incident, what are your considerations when conducting your shoring size up?
Type of building,
age,
construction,
casualty location,
debris piles,
identify structural hazards,
determine best method to mitigate hazards
determine the type and placement of shores
For an effective outcome to camera operations we should combine between the two cameras provided thus utilising the advantages and disadvantages with each camera. List the advantages and disadvantages starting with search camera first.
SEARCH CAMERA, ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE, CLARITY OF SCRREEN (LCD OVER VIDEO), BETTER CONROL OF THE CAMERA WITH PISTOL GRIP,MOTORISED HEAD, POSSIBLY MORE ROBUST, ON THE OLD MODEL THE LIGHT FACILITY IS CONTROLLABLE.
SNAKE EYE, MORE RESILLIANT, MORE FLEXIBLE, SUBMERSIBLE, SUBSTANTIALLY LESS EXPENSIVE
WHAT ARE THE PARATECH RULES OF APPLICATION?
- Do not join GOLD and GREY together
- Gold and grey can be used within same system
- Only gold struts to be used on raker shores
- Monitor collars periodically
- GOLD- One extension only
- GREY- Two extensions only (up to 3’/900mm)
- Plan to be replaced with timber
- Maximum distance between struts of 4’ (1.2m)
- Header/footer should overhang ideally 300mm/12” but can extend to 450mm/18”.

On a simple 5:1 Mechanical Advantage rope and pulley system, roved to Advantage, where would you tie the terminal end of the rope (line)? (LM3.3)
To the Load or to the Becket of the pulley attached to the load.
The eyebolt of a Fischer fixing is rated at 400Kgs Safe Working Load (SWL) at 0° (vertical lift).
You wish to apply a Force/Load at 90° (horizontally).
This will reduce the SWL of the eyebolt: -
to 25% of the original
so new swl is (400/4 = 100)
100 kg
•What is the weight calculation for a pipe?
3 x Diameter x Length x Depth X Density

- 1 x splice plate
- 2 x rail latch bases
- 2 x 610
- 1 x extension

- 1 x hinged base plate
- 1 x angle base
