Bank Questions Flashcards
Q2. What are the 3 containment boundaries?
Primary, Secondary and Intermediate.
Q3. What is the function of Steam Generators?
- To produce high quality steam for the operation of the Main and Turbo-Generator and Auxiliary steam systems.
2 To remove decay heat from the reactor core using the SG cooldown system.
Q4. List 5 items in the SG drawing.
- Driers
- Kinetic head destroyer
- Feedwater inlet nozzle
- Downcomer
- Tube bundle assembly
- SG main support
- Separator assembly
Q5. What is the function of the auxiliary steam system?
To provide steam at a constant pressure of 14 bar to the following:
- Main air ejectors
- Gland steam system
- Braby
Q7. Describe the basic operation of the gland steam system.
Steam is supplied at constant 14 Bar from the Auxiliary Steam System to the Gland Steam Supply Manifold. This the passes through cascade trim valves to both the Generator turbine shaft gland pockets and Main turbine gland pockets.
Q1. Define Plant state B.
Normal shutdown state but with reduced temperature. Minimising energy risk if an accident was to occur.
Q2. What is the function of a separator? How does it work?
Removes water from a system via centrifugal force.
Q4. What is the function of a Dump Steam Valve?
These control the discharge of steam to the main condensers during these operations:
- Power range testing
- Reactor Cooldown
- Emergency upstream leak
Q1. What is the system code of the Primary Circuit?
M
What controls the discharge of steam to the main injectors?
Dump steam valve
Q8. State the components of a steam drain system.
Back Pressure Regulating Valve
Yarway Steam Trap
Key Trap
Q7. What is the function of a steam drain system?
The Steam Drains System removes condensate from the steams system enabling the system to be fully drained of water during the shutdown periods.
What is the system code of the Steam Drain System?
SD
What is the function of the Main Machinery Raft?
The MMR carries the main propulsion and power generation machinery and also forms the bottom half of the main gearbox. These are mounted of residual modules which reduce noise transmission.
Q8. Where is the astern section of the main turbine?
This is at the forward end of the rotor and consists of a Curtis Wheel.
Q9. Why is there a separating wall between Ahead/ Astern sections of the Main Turbine.
This prevents steam leakage between the two sections.
Q9. Name four items on a shaft line diagram
Main Turbines Main Gearbox Main Wheel Flexible coupling Journal Bearings Thrust Block Loose Couplings Shaft Locking Gear Torsion Meter Shaft Seal FWD Stern Tube Bearing FWD Stern Tube AFT Stern Tube & Bearing Propulsor
Q12. What are the functions of the Main Circulating Water System?
- Provide a flow of cooling water to the main condenser so that optimum condenser vacuum and steam conditions can be maintained in both the main turbines and Turbo Generators.
- Supply the after stern tube bearing with water for cooling and lubrication.
- Provide a supply of water to the Clean Sea water System
