Bamford Stroke Classification Flashcards
What is a TACS stroke?
total anterior circulation stroke
Which arteries are involved in TACS stroke?
middle and anterior cerebral arteries
What symptoms are present in TACS?
Unilateral weakness (and/or sensory deficit) of the face, arm and leg
Homonymous hemianopia
Higher cerebral dysfunction (dysphasia, visuospatial disorder)
ALL THREE
What is a PACS stroke?
partial anterior circulation stroke
Which arteries are involved in
PACS stroke?
part of anterior circulation
What symptoms are present in PACS?
TWO OF BELOW:
Unilateral weakness (and/or sensory deficit) of the face, arm and leg
Homonymous hemianopia
Higher cerebral dysfunction (dysphasia, visuospatial disorder)*
*Higher cerebral dysfunction alone is also classified as PACS.
What is POCS?
posterior circulation syndrome
What vessels are involved in POCS?
damage to posterior circulation
Presentation of POCS?
ONE OF THE BELOW
Cranial nerve palsy and a contralateral motor/sensory deficit
Bilateral motor/sensory deficit
Conjugate eye movement disorder (e.g. horizontal gaze palsy)
Cerebellar dysfunction (e.g. vertigo, nystagmus, ataxia)
Isolated homonymous hemianopia
what is LACS?
lacunar stroke
what types of vessels are damaged in LACS?
small vessel disease
Symtpoms present for LACS?
ONE OF:
Pure sensory stroke
Pure motor stroke
Sensori-motor stroke
Ataxic hemiparesis
