Biography
A nonfiction account of a person’s life written by someone else. It is usually based on research, interviews, and other sources and provides a factual, objective perspective on the person’s life.
Autobiography
A nonfiction account of a person’s life written by that person. It typically covers their entire life from birth to the present (or near the end of their life) and is written in the first person (I, me, my).
Memoir
A type of autobiography that focuses on specific events, themes, or periods in the author’s life rather than covering their entire life story. It is often more personal and reflective, highlighting emotions and experiences rather than just facts.
Narrative Nonfiction
genre of writing that tells a true story using storytelling techniques such as character development, dialogue, and vivid descriptions. Biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs fall under this category.
Perspective
The way an author views and interprets events, especially important in memoirs, where personal experiences and emotions shape the story.
Theme
the central idea or message in a text. In memoirs, the theme is often more personal, reflecting on lessons learned or important life experiences
Tone
The author’s attitude toward the subject, which can be serious, humorous, reflective, or emotional.
Mood
The feeling or atmosphere created by the author’s writing, which influences how the reader feels while reading.
Characterization
The way an author describes and develops a person in the story, including their personality, actions, and thoughts.
