Foxtrot
A smooth progressive dance in 3/4 time performed primarily in closed position.
Waltz
Dance of Cuban origin, energetic with a steady beat, a dance with a split fourth beat.
Cha Cha
Standing facing each other, arms form a frame, gaze over the partners right shoulder.
Closed Position
Always falls to the man, communicates through torso, arms, and hands.
Lead
An art form, bodily movement synchronized with a rhythm provided by some form of musical instrument.
Ballroom Dancing
A combination of footfalls that lead a couple through some sort of geometrical pattern such as an arch tern, completed set of steps.
Figure
How the man and woman hand on to each other
Stance
Partners stand apart, face inwards or outwards, hold one or both hands, or stand independently.
Open Position
Dances in American style ballroom competitions; Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz
American Smooth
Dances in American style ballroom competitions; Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Balero, and Mambo
American Rhythm
The person who is being lead by subtle signals to complete the chosen steps.
