A position in which the dancer is on one leg with other leg raised behind with the knee bent
Attitude
A term applied to light sharp quick fast movements.
Allegro
A kick either high or low which may be executed in any direction.
Battement
Any step establishes with a beat
Battu
A battrie movement, usually for the male dancer.one leg kicks high in front or back and held in suspension till the leg leaves the floor to meet it in a beat or multiple beats.
Cabriole
A movement in which the dancer begins in 5th position and jumps up, switches the feet in the air and returns to 5th position with the feet reversed.
Changment
Foot stretched and pointed at the ankle. Toes touching in front (devant) and heel touching in back (derriere).
Coupe
Disengaged. Foot is brushed off the floor about 1 inch high from a tendu.
Degage

Derrire
The unfolding of the leg that results in an extension of the leg either front, side or back off the floor.
Develope
Arm position where the arms are in low 5th. A dancers “attention.”

Lowering the body by bending the supporting leg, often with the working leg in cou de pied. (sinking down, melting)
Fondu
A turn or spin on one leg that is assisted by the propelled whipping of the free leg.
Fouette

Frappe
To glide. A gliding step where the dancer starts in 5th position, opening to 2nd position, and closes in 5th position. It may be held to the floor or used a petite leap.
Glissade
A leap where the dancer brushes (degage) one leg out and propels in the air with a push off the plied leg, covers space in the air, and lands on the leg that was brushed with the opposite foot in coupe
Jete
A traveling step in which the dancer may move in any direction on demi-pointe or pointe by executing three steps (releve, releve, plie)
pas de bourree
Step of a cat. A leap (jump) beginning in 5th position where the leading leg passes through developpe passé and the other follows into passé so that both legs are turned out in the air and the landing on the leading foot and closing the other into 5th position
Pas de chat
A turn of body executed while standing in releve on one leg
