Balanced forces, Kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy Flashcards
What is a balanced force?
When two forces acting on an object are equal in size but act in opposite directions.
What determines the kinetic energy of an object?
Mass and speed
What is the equation for calculating kinetic energy?
KE = ½ mv2
What determines the amount of gravitational potential energy of an object?
Mass and height above ground
What book has the greatest amount of gravitational potential enrgy out of A and C?
A because the book is higher
What book has the greatest amount of gravitational potential enrgy out of A and B?
B because it has a bigger mass
What happens when an object reaches its terminal velocity?
When an object falls at its terminal speed, the speed doesn’t increase, so the kinetic energy doesn’t increase. However, the gravitational potential energy continues to decrease.
- If the speed of an item is doubled what happens to the kinetic energy?
- If the mass of an item is doubled what happens to the kinetic energy?
- The kinetic energy is quadrepuled
- The kinetic energy is doubled
