Q

Why does she believe children don’t search for objects that are out of sights

A

Because they don’t have the physical capacity to do so, don’t have the motor ability as they are too young rather than a failure to understand object permanence

Q

She Carried our her own research into VOE which typically comprises of two stages

A

Stage 1- infants are shown a particular event several times. This allows the infants to become familiar with the stimulus and stop responding to it
Stage 2- infants are divided into 2 groups. One shown expected event one shown unexpected

Q

The rolling carrot task

A

Aim- investigate infants ability to understand object permanence
Procedure- a large and small carrot sliding along track and reach a screen with window. Arranged so you see large carrot. However it doesn’t appear experimenters measure the child’s reaction
Findings- children as young as 3 month looked for longer when it didn’t appear. But Piaget sat this should happen at 8 month

Q

Natur debate

A

Based on innate knowledge
She believed object permanence developed earlier than Piaget said as she said they’re born with it.
Should take into account nurture to make more valid and get further explanation of early abilities in young infants

Ethical issues

A

Protection from harm- if they are shocked can cause distress
