What is a good outcome when a shuttle lands on the line?
A shuttle landing on the line is good
What happens if a shuttle hits the net during play?
A shuttle hitting the net is good and play continues if all other aspects are legal
What must all players do during the serve?
All players must be inside the lines of their respective service courts at the point of contact
What is a ‘let’?
A situation requiring a replay
What options does the winning team have after the toss?
- Serving first or receiving serve

How is the toss decided?
- Coin flip

What constitutes a fault during the serve?
- Shuttle is struck higher than the waist

Both the serving court and playing court are long and narrow
How does the server determine which side to serve from in singles?
Serve from the right side when the score is even and from the left side when the score is odd
What happens if the server wins a rally in singles play?
The server scores a point and serves again from the alternate court
What is the serving court size in doubles play?
Doubles serving court is short and wide
What happens to the playing court size after the serve in doubles?
Doubles playing court changes to long and wide
How does the serving team rotate in doubles play?
The same server serves the next serve from the other side after scoring a point
What is expected of players regarding calls and fouls during play?
- Call in favor of your opponent if in doubt about the bird’s landing
- Call fouls against yourself if there is any question
- Do not question calls of your opponent
- Do not smash at your opponent if the point could be won by placing the bird elsewhere
What is a ‘Clear’ in badminton terminology?
A stroke that sends the shuttle high and deep over the opponent to the back of the court
What is a ‘Drop Shot’?
A stroke in which the shuttle falls just over the net to the floor
Define ‘Fault’ in badminton.
Denotes an infraction of the rules resulting in a point for the other team
What is a ‘Foot Fault’?
Standing on or over the service court boundary line by either receiver or server
What does ‘Let’ mean?
Permitting the serve to be taken over or to replay a point
What is a ‘Rally’?
An exchange of the shuttle between opponents by a series of strokes

Shot that initiates play, should be low and short or high and deep
