What can badminton be played as?
Singles or doubles
What do we call the thing we hit?
A shuttlecock or shuttle. Nicknamed birdie.
What do you hit with?
Lightweight racket usually made of wood or plastic. Has lightweight strings.
What is in the shuttlecock?
A core base and 16 goose feathers
Where is it played?
Indoors
What is the net set at?
Five feet high.
What is the court?
Rectangular wider for doubles than singles. Length is always 44 feet.
How do you start the game?
By a coin toss or racket spin. Winning team decides if they want first serve or what side of court.
How to serve?
Underhand. Serve has to go diagonal. Also be behind service line
What is a fault?
Striking shuttle before it crosses net, if shuttle hits or goes through net, if it hits clothing, doesn’t go over net
What is a side out?
If a teams loss of serve bc a fault was committed
What is a rally?
When the teams keep hitting the shuttle back and forth. Won when a team commits a fault
How to win?
Team must win two out of three games to win a match. 21 points to win but must win by two or more. If the score stays within one point after 21, whoever gets the 30th point wins.
What happens after the first match?
The winner of the first match gets to serve first in second.
