  1. expressive language disorder: most children who catch up are at no further risk; outcome is better if children do not develop mood disorders of disruptive behavior problems; 50% with mild disorder recover spontaneously
  2. mixed receptive-expressive language disorder: less favorable prognosis than for expressive language disorder alone
  3. phonological disorder: spontaneous remission common
  4. stuttering: 50 to 80% recover spontaneously
