A. 1st line antibiotic for abscess
Phenoxymethylpenicillin
250mg
2 tablets 4xdaily for 5 Days
B. 1st line antibiotic for abscess
Amoxcicillin
500mg
1 capsule 3xdaily for 5 Days
C. 1st line antibiotic for abscess effective against anaerobic bacteria
Metronidazole 400mg
1 tablet 3xdaily for 5 Days
For pts who are allergic to PenV.
DON’T MIX WITH ALCOHOL/ WARFARIN
What are 2nd line antibiotics?
Broad spectrum anitbiotics
A. 2nd line antibiotic for abscess?
Clindamycin 150mg
1 capsule 4xdaily for 5 Days with water.
Stop if diarrhoea/ collitis developes.
B. 2nd line antibiotic for abscess?
Co-amoxiclav 250/125
1 tablet 3x daily for 5 Days
Can cause Cholestatic jaundice
C. 2nd line antibiotic fpr abscess?
Clarithromycin 250mg
1 tablet 2xdaily for 7 Days
DON’T GIVE TO PREGNANT/ NURSING PTS OR WARAFRIN/ STATIN
NUG/ Pericoronitis
Metronidazole 400mg
1 tablet 3xdaily for 3 Days
Alternativce drug for NUG/ Pericoronitis
Amoxcicillin 500mg
1 capsule 3xdaily for 3 Days
Sinusitis
Phenoxymethylpenicillin 250mg
2 tablets 4xdaily for 5 Days
Alternative drug for sinusitis
Doxycycline 100mg (5 Days)
2 capsule 1st day then, 1xdaily for 4 Days with plenty of water
DON’T TAKE WARFARIN
