Bacterial Endocarditis

Patient will be complaining of fever, rash, cough and myalgias
Physical exam will show Fever, Roth spots, Osler nodes, Murmur, Janeway lesions, Anemia, Nailbed hemorrhages, Emboli (FROM JANE)
Diagnosis is made by echocardiography and Duke’s criteria
Most commonly caused by:
IVDA: S. aureus, tricuspid
Native valve: Streptococci, mitral
Treatment is antibiotics
Comments: GI malignancy: S. bovis
Dental prophylaxis in some case
