2 main types of bacteria
There are two types of bacteria:
Pathogenic: harmful bacteria
Non-pathogenic: non-harmful bacteria
Salmonella
Source:eggs, meat, poultry and milk
Symptoms:nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, fever and chills
Incubation period: 12-36 hrs
E Coli
Source:ground beef, raw milk, juice, soft cheeses and dirty water
Symptoms:abdominal cramps, gas, loss of appetite, kidney damage, vomiting (uncommon) and fever
Incubation period: 12-24 hrs
Listeria
Source:poultry, raw milk, soft cheeses, pate and beef
Symptoms:feels like the flu (nausea, diarrhoea, muscle aches)
Incubation period: 1-70 days
Staphylococcus aureus
Source:foods made with hand contact (sandwiches, salads) raw milk
Symptoms:nausea and vomiting
Incubation period: 1-6 hours
Campylobacter
Source:water, raw poultry and milk
Symptoms:abdominal cramps, fever, nausea and watery diarrhoea
Incubation period: 2-5 days
