What is a Backup?
Copy of data that is archived and can be used to restore corrupt or lost data due to hardware or system failure.
Backups often distinguish between different types of data. Name the three types:
- System State
- User Data
- Application Data
What’s included in System State backup?
Data includes all of the files required to boot and run the computer
Operating system files
Registry
Drivers
Configuration files.
What’s included in User Data backup?
All data files saved and modified by users or applications that users run. Eg: Word, music, pictures
What’s included in Application Data backup?
Files installed by an application and application configuration files. Executable files and any files needed by the application to run.
Why is the user data is the most important data for a company.
Because user data changes constantly, back up the user data frequently and on a regular schedule.
When does Application data change?
Only following the installation of an application or following a configuration change.
