Why did Alexander the great choose Alexandria

A

Because there was a fine harbour it was west to the mouth of the Nile that was good Anchorage, healthy climate in freshwater, and limestone quarries nearby to provide stone for the building

Who ruled Alexandria

A

Alexander the great died while the city was still developing and his body was buried there in a magnificent to him, he was succeeded by the Ptolemy one of his generals whose descendants governed Alexandria and Egypt for the next 300 years

Why was Alexandria one of the greatest cities of the Roman Empire

A

Became part of the Roman Empire in the first century A.D. and was certainly the greatest city in the eastern part of the empire with 1 million inhabitants. Much of the 12th and importance was due to its position. It’s still that a meeting place of great trade routes and was excellent you placed for trading on a large scale. Merchants and businessmen were attracted to the city because it offered them safe harbours for their ships, I large number of chocolate is to handle their cargoes, a huge warehouse for storage, and a busy market for buying and selling

What was the pharos

A

A huge slight house which acted as a marker day and night for the thousands of ships that used Alexandria is harbour it’s regarded as one of the ancient wonders of the world. It was over 135 m high with a fire constantly a light at the top. Statues of the Ptolemy and this Queen can be seen at the base of the Lighthouse

How was Alexandria set out

A

The architects plan the city carefully with its Street set out in the grid system. The main street CanOpener Street was more than 30 m wide. Some of the houses were several stories high and many other public buildings were built of marble. Had a great time about was the Royal quarter, and area of more than 260 hectors containing palaces temples and gardens

A

They stood in front of the caesarum they were tall narrow pillers made out of grand night. They were bought from an ancient Egyptian temple and put in position by Roman engineer and 13 BC.

Contains the largest library in the ancient world with more than half 1 million volumes on its shelves it was situated in the Royal quarter. Professional scholars were employed to do we search.
