Viticulture and Winemaking

A

Viticulture and Winemaking is an economic activity that refers to the cultivation and management of grapevines and the fermentation of grapes to create wine. Wine growing regions are optimal in 30°-50°N/S, with a Mediterranean climate hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, with preferred temperature ranges of 10-20°C and a average rainfall of 700mm per year. Globally in 2022, 258 million hectolitres of wine was produced, these global areas being split into two main sections, old and new world. Old world refers to the traditional growing with a focus on terroir and strict growing boundaries, consisting of countries such as France, Italy and Spain
New world consists outside of the old world regions, with little to no regulations when growing grapes, being dominated by TNC’s that bulk produce and has put cheap and easily accessible wine on the market.
