Back Origin/Insertions Flashcards
trapezius origin and insertion
origin- external occipital protuberance, spinous process of cervical to mid thoracic vertebra
insertion- clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
innervation and action of trapezius
innervation- anterior rami C3-C4, motor nerve (XI)
action- elevate, retract, depress scapula
latissimus dorsi origin and insertion
origin- spinous process or mid thoracic to sacral (through thoracolumbar fascia), iliac crest
insertion- intertubercular sulcus (proximal humerus)
innervation and action of latissimus dorsi
innervation- thoracadorsal nerve
action-adduct arm from an abducted position, extend arm form a flexed position
origin and insertion of rhomboid major/minor
origin- spinous process of lower cervical to upper thoracic
insertion- medial border of scapula
innervation and action of rhomboid major/minor
innervation- dorsal scapular nerve
action- retract scapula
origin and insertion of levator scapulae
origin- transverse process of upper cervical
insertion- superior angle of scapulai
innervation and action of levator scapulae
innervation- dorsal scapular
aciton- elevates scapula, fixes scapula (resist downward force), downward rotation
origin and insertion of serratous posterior superior
origin- nuchal ligament, spinous process of C7-T3
insertion-n superior border of ribs 2-5
innervation and action of serratous posterior superior

(most lateral of erector spinae)
origin-iliac crest, sacrum
insertion- lateral to costal angle
innervation and action of iliocostalis
innervation - dorsal rami C4-S5
action- extends and laterally bends the trunk and neck
