Back Muscles Flashcards
Trapezius
Function: elevation, retraction, depression of scapula, rotation of glenoid fossa superiorly
Latissimus Dorsi
function: extension, adduction, medial/internal rotation of humerus; lifts body toward arm in climbing
Levator Scapulae
Function: elevates the scapula and rotates the scapula to depress the glenoid cavity
Rhomboid major and minor
Function: retract the scapula, rotate the scapula to depress the gleaned cavity and hold the scapula close to the thoracic wall.
Serratus posterior superior
elevation of ribs
Serratus posterior inferior
depression of ribs
Splenius capitus and cervicis
unilateral contraction yeilds lateral flexion of neck and rotation of head to side of contraction
Erector Spinae: iliocstalis, longissimus, spinalis
unilateral contraction yields lateral felxion, bilateral contraction yeild extension
Semispinalis cervivis and capitus
extension of the vertebral column (cervicis) and head (captious)
Multifundus
unilateral contraction rotates to contralateral side, stabilizes vertebrae
