Back and Spine Flashcards
Name ligaments in red (middle one is spinous process)
Supraspinous ligaments
Intraspinous ligaments
Iliac crests are at what spinous level?
L4
Blood supply of cervical vertebrae?
Ascending cervical arteries (branch of thyrocervical trunk, off subclavian), vertebral arteries
Blood supply of thoracic vertebrae?
Posterior intercostal arteries
Blood supply of lumbar vertebrae?
Iliolumbar and lateral/medial sacral arteries.
Innervation of spinal column?
Recurrent meningeal branches of spinal nerves
Trapezius (parts, function, attachments, innervation, blood supply)
CN XI (accessory nerve) - motor, C3,C4 - sensory.
Upper fibres - elevate and rotate scapula, extend neck, lateral flexion of neck (when working unilaterally)
Middle fibers - adduct scapula
Lower fibers - depress scapula
Origin - nuchal ligament, spinous processes
Insertion - lateral third of clavicle
Middle - superior crest of scapular spine
Inferior - lateral border of inferior scapula
Blood supply - occipital artery, transverse cervical artery, dorsal scapular artery
Latissimus dorsi (parts, function, attachments, innervation, blood supply)
Origin - Spinous processes T5-T12, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest,
Insertion - intertubular (bicipital) sulcus of humerus (between teres major and pectoralis major) - “lady between two majors)
Function - depression of arm, internal rotation and adduction of shoulder, extension of arm
Innervation - thoracodorsal nerve (c6-c8)
Blood supply - thoracodorsal artery, perforating rib arteries, 1st-3rd lumbar arteries
Serratus anterior (parts, function, attachments, innervation, blood supply)
Origin - lateral surface of 1st-8th ribs
Insertion - medial border of scapula, superior and inferior tip of scapula
Function - protraction of scapula (boxer’s muscle), upward rotation of scapular
Innervation - long thoracic nerve C5-C7
Blood supply - lateral thoracic artery, superior thoracic artery, thoracodorsal artery
