What is the innervation of the trapezius muscle?
motor: spinal accessory (XI), proprioception: C3-C4
What is the function of the trapezius muscle?
Assists in rotating the scapular during abduction of humorous above horizontal; upper fibers elevate, middle fibers adduct, and lower fibers depressed scapula
What is the blood supply of the trapezius muscle?
Transverse cervical artery

Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
What is the blood supply of the rhomboid major muscle?
Dorsal scapular artery
What is the function of the rhomboid major muscle?
Retracts and elevates scapula
What is the origin of the rhomboid minor muscle?
Lower portion of the ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes of CVII and TI
What is the insertion of the rhomboid minor muscle?
Medial border of the scapula at the root of the spine of the scapula
What is the innervation of the rhomboid minor muscle?
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
What is the blood supply of the rhomboid minor muscle?
Dorsal scapular artery
What is the function of the rhomboid minor muscle?
Retracts and elevates scapula
Which muscles are included in the intermediate group of back muscles?
Serratus posterior superior, serratus posterior inferior
What is the origin of the serratus posterior superior muscle?
Lower portion of ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes of CVII to TIII and supraspinous ligaments
What is the insertion of the serratus posterior superior muscle?
Upper border of ribs II to V just lateral of their angles
What is the innervation of the serratus posterior superior muscle?
Anterior rami of upper thoracic nerves (T2 to T5)
What is the function of the serratus posterior superior muscle?
Elevates ribs 2 to 5
What is the blood supply of the serratus posterior superior muscle?
Posterior intercostal arteries one through four
What is the origin of the serratus posterior inferior muscle?
Spinous processes of TXI to LIII (T11 to L3) and supraspinous ligaments
What is the insertion of the serratus posterior inferior muscle?
Lower border of ribs IX to XII just lateral to the angles
What is the innervation of the serratus posterior inferior muscle?
Anterior Rami of lower thoracic nerves (T9 to T12)
What is the blood supply to the serratus posterior inferior muscle?
Lowest posterior intercostal artery, subcostal artery, first 2 lumbar arteries
What is the function of the serratus posterior inferior muscle?
Depresses ribs 9 to 12 and may prevent lower ribs from being elevated when the diaphragm contracts
What is the origin of the splenius capitis muscle?
Lower half of the ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes of CVII to TIV (C7 to T4)
