What is the babinski reflex?
Baby’s toes fan out when the sole of their foot is stroked.
When does the babinksi reflex disappear?
Between 8-12 months.
What causes a blink reflex?
Bright lights or loud noises.
What is the moro reflex?
A baby throws its arms out and then inward in response to loud noises or its head falling.
When does the moro response disappear?
6 months.
What is the palmar reflex?
A baby grasps an object placed in the palm of its hand
When does the palmar reflex go away?
3-4 months.
What is rooting?
When a baby’s cheek is stroked, it turns its head towards it and opens its mouth.
When does rooting go away?
3-4 weeks (replaced by voluntary head turning)
What is the stepping reflex?
A baby who is help upright and is then moved will begin to step.
When does stepping go away?
2-3 months.
What is sucking?
Babies suck on items placed in their mouth.
When does sucking go away?
4 months (replaced by voluntary sucking)
What is withdrawal?
The baby withdraws from a pin prick.
What are the two permanent reflexes?
Blinking and withdrawal.
