  1. Introduce - name and role
  2. Tell what going to do today.
    -daily examination of alfie
    - consent-including undressing alfie
    -head to toe examination - looking for deviations from normal
    - weigh baby using local guidance
    - support parents/ answer any questions
  3. Look out for any deviations from normal - pass on to midwife
  4. Refer on if necessary
  5. Newborn wellbeing
  6. Support and advice to parents in new role

A
  1. Wash hands - WHO 5 moments of hand hygiene 7 steps of hand washing - use gel if visibly clean - prevent cross infection
  2. Apply PPE - gloves and apron
  3. Make sure room warm - if not reduce time of exposure
  4. Good lighting
  5. Warm hands

A
  1. Baby’s behaviour
  2. Has baby been sleeping?
  3. How is baby feeding and how often? - both breasts and are they being emptied at feeds?
  4. Is feeding going well/volume of feeds?
  5. How many wet (5-6 - 24 hours)/dirty nappies(min 2 - 24hours)- size of 2pound coin?
  6. Change in colour/texture - starting to become lighter?
  7. Concerns?
  8. Does baby look well?
  9. How is it lying in cot/reducing SIDS - feet to foot-no bumpers or toys in cot
  10. Is it dressed appropriately/ no hat if they are indoors?
  11. Resps 30-40 rpm - 60 if crying
  12. Chest symmetric
  13. Nostrils flaring/chest drawing in-overworking
  14. Vomiting/positing
  15. Limb movement-all 4
