BAB 1 Flashcards
Thalumus
Comes from the diencephalon
Relays sensory activity to the cerebral cortex
Diencephalon creates:
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Basal ganglia
Controls voluntary movement
Corpus callosum
Connects two hemispheres of the brain
Myelinated fiber types
Motor
Some sensory- vibration, proprioception
Unmyelinated nerve fiber types
Some sensory- pain, temperature
Some autonomic
Part of the brain involved in naming things
Wernickes
Encephalopathic
Diffuse brain disfunction
Acetazolamide
Decreases CSF production by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase
Circumventricular organs
Parts of the brain where there is no blood brain barrier- this allows quick reaction to biochemical agents in the blood
Many of these organs are centrally located
Beta 2 transferrin
Protein which is a marker for CSF fluid
Proprioception
Limb and joint position sense
Epicritic sensation
Topognosis- localizing the position of a sensation
Two point discrimination
Stereognosis- ability to perceive and recognize the form and nature of an object from touch
Graphesthesia- ability to recognize writing on the skin
Protopathic sensations
Crude sensations- pain, temp, crude touch
Itch as tickle
Dermatome
area of the skin inner cater by one spinal nerve
