16
Q

effects of compartment firefighting?

A

-restricts ability to regulate body temp
- manual handling increase in temps and fluid loss
- ability to make critical desicions is compromised

17
Q

Signs and symptoms of backdraught?(8)

A

-limited ventilation
-hot doors and windows
-Smoke pulsating around openings
-soot blackened windows
-air being drawn back into openings
-ghosting flames over head
-Lack of visible flame
-Change in fire conditions

18
Q

How and why would you set up a BA welfare area?

A

-In clean air
-under covered structure
-Benches/tables
-Cooling assistance
-thermal blankets
-Lighting
-First aid
-Defib
-Dry clothes
-Water/drinks
-Toilets
-: near command support. Important to meet required recovery periods before redeployment.

19
Q

BA rest periods?

A

<35= 30 mins 500ml
>35=60 mins 1000ml

20
Q

Requirements of an emergency team?

A

-at least equal size to the largest commuted BA team.
-Minimum of 2 Wearers
- Must have suitable equipment for the emergency (EASE)
-equivalent cap and duration cylinders.

21
Q

Emergency team call sign and considerations?

A

Call sign should replicate the ECP they were deployed from. E.G emergency team Alpha 1.
Considerations to numbers in the distressed team, distance from ecp etc

22
Q

Correct use of EASE?

A

-Gauge check of all members
-Inform ECO of exact location
-Identify member that requires assistance.
-silence ADSU.
-Check casualties cylinder and assess.
-connect EASE if required.
-Purge system
-Original cylinder may now be turned off.
-place carry jangle over casualties head.
-Remove from risk area.

23
Q

Effects of raised body temperature?

A

Normal is 37
-anxiety/confusion/over estimating capabilities
-Fatigue
-Increased blood flow
-Increased sweat-dehydration
-if blood cannot be cooked the body’s and brain temps increase to critical levels.
