B9.1 nervous control in humans Flashcards
what is the role of a neurone
to transmit nerve impulses
what are the nervous system made up of
-brain
-spinal cord
-nerves
what does the nervous system allows us to do?
enables us to
-control our body
-gives us feedback about the world
what are the main 2 parts in the nervous system
-CNS (Central nervous system)
-PNS (Peripheral nervous system)
what are the 3 main stages of our Nervous system
- sensory receptors
- Relay neurone
- Effectors
what are the stimuli and receptor cells for
-eye
-tongue
-skin
-nose
eye- light, photoreceptors
tongue- chemicals in food, taste receptors
skin- heat/pressure, temperature receptors
nose- chemicals in air, smell receptors
what is a dendrite
receives the impulse , branched to connect with many neurones
what is a cell body
where the nucleus is. controls the neurone
what is an axon
transmit the impulse away from the cell body
what is a myelin sheath
insulates the axon to stop impulses leaking away
what is a nerve ending
forms junctions with other cells
what is a dendron
transmit the impulse towards the cell body
what are the steps in a nervous action
stimulus-> receptor cells-> sensory neurones-> spinal cord-> brain-> spinal cord-> motor neurone-> effector-> response
what is a reflex action
automatic and rapid (doesn’t pass through the brain)
