Q

What are the three main changes which occur during exercise?

A

An increase in the heart rate,
Glycogen stores in the muscles are converted to glucose for cellular respiration,

Q

Explain why a person’s breathing rate initially remains high after they have completed a 100m sprint. (4 marks)

A

During aerobic respiration glucose is not completely oxidised, which causes a build up of lactic acid. Producing carbon dioxide and water will repay the oxygen debt and in order to get carbon dioxide the person must breathe which will result in a high breathing rate.
