B9 Flashcards
Aerobic respiration
A chemical process in which oxygen is used to make energy from carbohydrates (sugars)
anaerobic respiration
occurs without oxygen and releases less energy but more quickly than aerobic respiration
In what situations do anerobic respiration take place?
when an athlete is exercising too much there’s not enough oxygen delivery into the muscle.
What are disadvantages of anerobic respiration
Anaerobic respiration releases less energy than aerobic respiration
What are advantages of anaerobic respiration
Anaerobic respiration has the advantage of being faster than aerobic respiration and not requiring oxygen for energy conversion.
What are disadvantages of aerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration is relatively slow and requires oxygen.
What are advantages of aerobic respiration
A major advantage of aerobic respiration is the amount of energy it releases
When does aerobic respiration take place
when there is insufficient oxygen present for respiration
What is the difference between aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration
Cellular respiration that proceeds in the absence of oxygen is anaerobic respiration. Cellular respiration that proceeds in the presence of oxygen is aerobic respiration.
