What is Classification?
A
It is the arrangement of animals and plants in taxonomic groups according to their observed similarities.

Who introduced the Binomial system?
A
Linnaeus in 1753

What does the Binomial system involve?
A
Each organism is given TWO names - the name of genus and species

What are the rules with the latin names of genus and species?
A
- Genus always has a capital and Species is lower case e.g. Panthera leo (lion)
- Should be written out in full and then it can be shortened e.g. P. leo
- Needs to be in italics or underlined when written.

A
- Archea - primitive bacteria usually living in extreme conditions (extremophiles)
- Bacteria - true bacteria
- Eukaryotes - plants, animals, fungi and protists
