B7 Flashcards
Evaporation
Water is turned from a liquid into water vapour forming warm moist air.
Condensation
Air rises and cools forming water droplets.
Precipitation
As water droplets get heavier they fall as rain.
Transpiration and respiration
Loss of water vapour from plants and animals directly to the atmosphere.
The route water takes from roots to leaf.
Glucose and oxygen produce CO2and H2O and release energy.
Respiration returns carbon to the atmosphere.
The carbon cycle
Carbon is in all living organisms.
Removes carbon from organisms to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
The decay cycle
Microorganisms cycle materials through an ecosystem by returning carbon to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and mineral ions to the soil.
Microorganisms also respire to release CO2 as they decompose dead plants and animals.
The water cycle
Provides fresh water for plants and animals on land. Water is continuously evaporated and precipitated.
