Q

Describe photosynthesis in the carbon cycle.

A

CO2 is removed from the atmosphere by green plants and algae during photosynthesis. This CO2 is the used to make glucose.

Describe feeding in the carbon cycle.

A

Animals eat the plants and get carbon in their food.

Q

Describe respiration in the carbon cycle.

A

Plants and animals release CO2 back into the air during respiration.

5
Q

Describe decomposition in the carbon cycle.

A

When animals and plants die, decomposers (bacteria and fungi) break them down. This releases CO2 into the air through respiration.

Q

Define interdependence

A

Each species depend on other species in a community.

17
Q

Give 4 examples of abiotic factors.

A
  1. moisture level
  2. light intensity
  3. temperature
  4. wind intensity
  5. oxygen level
  6. soil pH
18
Q

Give 4 examples of biotic factors that can AFFECT THE SIZE OF A POPULATION.

A
  1. new predators
  2. competition
  3. availability of food
  4. new pathogens
19
Q

What are the 3 different adaptations of organisms?

A
  1. structural
  2. behavioural
  3. functional
20
Q

Describe a STRUCTURAL adaptation of an organism

A

The organism’s body structure. For example, shape or colour.

21
Q

Describe a BEHAVIOURAL adaptation of an organism.

A

The way an organism behaves. For example, species migrating to a warmer climate during the winter.

22
Q

Describe a FUNCTIONAL adaptation of an organism.

A

Things that go on inside of an organism’s body that can be related to processes like reproduction and metabolism. For example, hibernation for bears or desert animals conserving water.

23
Q

What are extremophiles?

A

Organisms that are adapted to live in very extreme conditions.
