B5 DNA Flashcards
1
Q
The genome is
A
the entire genetic material (DNA) of an organism
2
Q
Mutations…
A
are a change in the DNA
3
Q
Mutations effect
A
most mutations have no effect on the phenotype, some will have a small effect, whilst occasionally others will determine the phenotype.
4
Q
5 key properties of the genetic code
A
- It is universal: same code used across species
- Composed of nucleotide triplets
- It is unambiguous: the same codon will always code for one amino acid
- It is non- overlapping: each nucleotide is only part of one codon
- It is degenerate: several codons can encode for the same amino acid
