b5 communicable diseases + b6 preventing and treating diseases Flashcards
what is a communicable disease and how is it caused?
a communicable disease is something you can catch. it is spread through air droplets or sexual intercourse.
name the 4 types of pathogen.
bacteria/fungus/virus/protist
name three factors that can influence both mental and physical health
drugs/smoking/diet/exercise
what can bacteria produce?
poison
where do viruses live and produce?
cells
examples of bacterial diseases
HIV/salmonella/common cold/chicken pox
describe how malaria is spread from person to person
it cant be directly spread by humans, however if a mosquito bites an infected person it will get the malaria ,.then when it bites someone it will inject that person with the malaria.
describe to ways HIV spreads through humans
unprotected sex/sharing syringes
suggest how TMV spreads within the plant from one part to another
xylem phloem because it transports water and nutrient around the body.
describe how TMV can pass from plant to plant
if a human touches a infected plant then touches another plant(direct contact)
describe the first line of defence the body has that prevent pathogens entering the body.
raspatory system has cilia that bring up mucus form stomach the mucus contains the pathogen which is coughs up or sneezed out.
how do white blood cell protect the body against pathogens
engulf pathogens/produce antibodies/produce antitoxins
what does a vaccine contain
weekend or dead pathogens
how do vaccine work
person injected with the dead or wakened pathogen. the white blood cells ingulf it. the memory cells then remember that it is an imposter. the body then stimulates it.
what is heard immunity?
when selected people in a group get vaccinated. eg 10 out of 20
