B5 Flashcards
What is negative feedback?
Negative feedback is the process by which optimal conditions are returned after a stimuli and is used in homeostasis
What 3 things make up the nervous system?
Brain, Spinal Chord and neurones (nerve cells)
What is the function of neurones?
To carry electrical impulses between, and receptors, CNS and effectors
What are neurotransmitters?
Chemicals that diffuse across the synapse and bind to receptors on the next neurone
What two factors can decrease reaction time?
Caffeine
Exercise
What does Ethene do?
Gas that controls cell division and ripening of fruits
What dies Auxin do?
Changes the direction roots grow in to move towards or away from a stimulus
What are responses to stimuli involving directional growth called?
Tropisms
Phototropism
Gravitropism or Geotropism
What do Gibberellins do?
Stimulate seed germination (sprouting process)
What is Deamination?
Process undergone by excess amino acids
Waste product is ammonia
What are Nephron
Small structures that are a functional part of the Kidney
What are the two parts of Urine Production?
Ultrafiltration
Selective reabsorption
What are immunosuppressant drugs?
Drugs which prevent the immune system from destroying foreign cells of the transplanted kidney
What is the Endocrine system?
Made up of glands that release hormones which are transported through the bloodstream
Helps with Growth
Releases hormones
