The aim of psychoanalysis

What does a psychoanalyst do?
Listens and observes, focusing on emotions. Work with client individually and gather both verbal and non-verbal info. They help the client understand their emotions, and free them from their problems. They record info from each session carefully.
The experience of psychoanalysis for the client
Client usually undergoes 4-5 50 minutes sessions a week. Analysis can take a long time- lots of listening and observing to be done before there is enough info. Analysis takes place in comfortable room, patient usually lies on couch away from analyst. Each session cost around £50, but can be negotiable
How often is dream analysis used in psychoanalysis?
It can be used, but not always. Transference and counter transference are more important. It was found that most of the time, dream analysis is suggested by the patient, and is successful to a large extent. Clients rarely reject analysis of their dreams.
Transference
When a client transfers their emotions (anger, hate, love) onto the analyst, who must be prepared for this.
Counter transference
When the analyst transfers their own feelings back onto the client
