b3 Flashcards
what is a tissue
a tissue is a groupie cells with similar structure and function working together
what is an organ
an organ is a collection of tissues
what kind of tissues are there in the stomach
muscular ,glandular, epithelial
what are the main two functions of the pancreas
it makes hormones to control blood sugars
and make enzymes that digest food
whats an organ system
an organ system are groups of organs that all work together to perform a specific function
what are some adaptations of organ systems
increasing surface area
increasing concentration gradient
shortening diffusion distance
this increases the effectiveness of exchange
give an example of a tissue
muscular tissue , glandular and epithelial
what are the levels of organisation for a multi cellular organism
cells tissues organs organ sytem organism
what is the digestive system
the digestive system is a mammal organ system where several organs work together to digest and absorb food
where do the enzymes for the digestive system come from
pancreas
salivary glands
what to enzymes do in the digestive system
they break down large insoluble food molecules into small soluble ones
what does the small intestine do in the digestive system
continues the break down of proteins lipids and carbohydrates and it is where the soluble food molecules are absorbed into your blood .
how has the small intestine adapted for exchange
the small intestine is adapted to have a very large surface area by being covered in villi , by having a good blood supply and by having short diffusion distances. this increases the rate of diffusion and active transport
in the digestive system where is water absorbed from undigested food
large intestine
what is the function of the liver in the digestion system
produces bile which help the digestion of lipids
