B2.2 Growth and differentiation Flashcards
How do animals and plants grow?
Cell division is how individual animals and plants grow and replace parts of themselves.
How is animal and plant growth similar?
They both require energy to grow.
How is animal and plant growth different?
When young animals mature, all parts of their bodies grow until they reach a genetically determined size for each species. However plant growth continues throughout the lifespan of the plant
How are the growth of a plant and a human different?
In plants growth is due to cell elongation and division, whereas in humans it is just cell division.
Name cell division that produces clones
Mitosis
What is meant by the term ‘differentiated cell’?
Differentiated cells are cells that are specialised to do a different job.
