Occ health services is concerned with the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, , mental and social well being of workers in all occupations

Describe the role of a OCC Health Nurse
- Assist the employer in complying with H&S Legislation
- Monitoring the Health of employees
- Promote good health activities in the workplace
- Work with Managers to minimise hazards, ensure compliance with H&S Regs. & implement OCC health policies
- Dealing with cases of substance misuse
- Advising on placement at work throuh pre-employment health assessment
- Offering basic health checks and co-ordinating First aid services
- Advise on ergonomic issues
- Provide advise and councelling
Identify what level of qualifications required by OCC Health doctors and Nurses
Doctors - Diploma in occupational medicine; Associateship of Occ Medicine and Membership of Faculty of Occ Medicine. This can be verified by General medical Council or Faculty of Occ medicine
Nurse - Certificate or diploma or degree in Occ Health nurse. This can be verified the nursing & Midwifery Council

Explain the difference between Health Assessment, Health surveillance and Medical Surveillance
General health assessment - is an assessment of an individual general health and fitness. Normally it is conducted by a OCC. Doctor or Nurse or by the individual itself by form of questionnaire and followed up by the Occ practicinare
Health Surveillance - is monitoring of an individual health to ensure that they are suitable for the work involving specific type of health hazard and to track their health over time.
Medical surveillance - The difference between Health and medical surveillance is determined by the person carrying out “relevant doctor” (medical inspector of H&S Employment medical advisory Service or doctor appointed by HSE
Describe requirements for health surveillance under statutory duty MHSAWR.
Health surveillance is only required where the following criteria are met:
- there is an identifiable disease or adverse health conditions related to work concerned
- Valid techniques are available to detect indications of disease or conditions
- there is likelihood the disease or condition will occur under conditions or work
- Surveillance is likely to further the protection of the H&S of employees
Identified statutory duty required Health and medical conditions
Health Surveillance is required under COSHH,CNAW, control of vibration, etc
Medical Surveillance - COSHH, Lead @ work regs, Asbestos, Radiation
What is Health needs Assessment
Health needs assessment is a systematic method of reviewing the health issues facing a population, leading to agreed priorities and resource allocation that will improve health and reduce inequalities
Identify Key stages of a Health assessment needs
Stage 1:
Commitment for Senior Management and support and secure resources:time, access to workers, questionnaires and other data (RA, accident reports, MSDS, results of biological and Health surveillance reports
Stage 2: decide on the method data of collection (survey, interviews, focus group)
Stage 3. Consider the factors associated with the job, physical and psycological demands of job, individuals health effect whilst on the job, specific fitness standards and special cases
Stage 4. gather the data
Stage 5. Analyse the data
Stage 6. Develop and implement the workplace health and well being strategy in consultation with employees
Stage 7. review, evaluate and monitor progress
