What are characteristics?
The features of an organism.
What is classification?
The process of sorting organisms into groups based on their characteristics.
What are species?
Each different type of organism is called a species. The members of a species can reproduce offspring that will also be able to reproduce.
What is a genus?
A classification group that contains species with similar characteristics (plural - genera).
What is the Kingdom Animalia/Animals?
They are multicellular, heterotrophic feeders so no chlorophyll; no cell walls; complex cell structure with no nucleus?
What is the Kindgom Plantae/Plants?
Multicellular; autotrophic feeders using chlorophyll; cell walls made of cellulose; complex cell structure with nucleus.
What is the Kingdom Fungi?
Multicellular; cell walls not made of cellulose; saprophytic feeders so no chlorophyll; complex cell structure with nucleus.
What is the Kingdom Protoctista?
Mostly unicellular (a few are multicellular); complex cell structure with nucleus.
What is the Kingdom Prokaryotae?
Unicellular; simple cell structure with no nucleus.
What is family?
A classification group that contains genera with similar characteristics.
What is a Kingdom?
The largest division in the classification of organisms.
What does multicellular mean?
Made of more than one cell.
What does unicellular mean?
Made of one cell.
What is a nucleus?
The central part of an atom, containing protons and neutrons. The control centre of a cell (plural - nuclei).
What is bacteria?
Simple organisms consisting of one cell that does not contain a nucleus (singular - bacterium).
