Q

Differences between virus and bacteria

A

Virus is smaller, not cells, they invade the cell and use the cell to make copies of itself, they damage the cells. Bacteria is a cell which reproduces inside the body. They make you ill by damaging the cells and producing toxins

15
Q

Immune system producing antibodies

A

Invading cells have antigens on it’s surface. When white blood cells come across a foreign antigen they start to produce antibodies that kill invading cell

16
Q

What is an vaccine

A

Injecting a dead or inactive pathogen. These carry antigens that cause the white blood cells to produce antibodies to attack them. If infected by the same pathogen again the white blood cells can rapid mass produce the antibodies and you won’t get ill.

17
Q

What are painkillers

A

They relieve pain but don’t have any effect in the viruses

18
Q

What are antibiotics

A

They kill or prevent the growth of bacteria, don’t destroy viruses because viruses reproduce in own cells so the antibiotics would destroy your own cell aswell

19
Q

What is antibiotic resistance

A

Resistance to antibiotics means a mutation has occurred and may cause the bacteria to be resistant so will survive and reproduce

20
Q

How do you slow antibiotic resistance

A

Not over using the antibiotic
