B1.1 Flashcards
Why do you need vitamins and minerals
So you don’t suffer deficiency diseases
Balance diet includes
Carbohydrates Proteins Fat Vitamins and minerals Fibre Water
What is malnourished
Out of balance diet
What is the metabolic rate
Rate of chemical reactions in your cells
How do is your metabolic rate different
Exercise build up muscle
Inherited factors
Men is higher than women because they have a higher proportion of fat to muscle
Health problems linked to obesity
More energy than use and stored as fat can lead to arthritis, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease
What is a pathogen
Microorganisms that enter the body and cause disease
What types of pathogens are there
Boris and bacteria
Differences between virus and bacteria
Virus is smaller, not cells, they invade the cell and use the cell to make copies of itself, they damage the cells. Bacteria is a cell which reproduces inside the body. They make you ill by damaging the cells and producing toxins
Getting a pathogen by droplet
Droplet effect, cough sneeze droplets withs pathogens and breathed in pick up infection
Getting infected by direct contact
Spread by contact of the skin
Contaminated food and drink getting pathogens
Eating raw or uncool foods
Drinking water containing sewage
Breakthrough in skins getting pathogen
Pathogens enter through cuts scratches and meddles punctures
Immune system consuming
White blood cells ingest pathogen
Immune system producing antitoxins
Produce antitoxins to counteract the toxins produced by the pathogen
