B1 Topic Biology Flashcards
What is the Nucleus
Controls the Cell and contains DNA
What is the ribosome
It is where proteins are made
What is the cell membrane
It is the part of the cell that lets things in and out of it
What is the mitochondria
It is where respiration happens and energy is made
What is cytoplasm
It is the liquid part of the cell containing water and other dissolved substances
What is the cell wall
It surrounds the cell giving it support
What is vacuole
Gives the cell its shape
What is the chloroplast
It is where photosynthesis happens
Why does the sperm cell have a tail
So it can swim to the egg
Why does the sperm need lots of energy
Because it has to swim really fast to the egg
What cells job is to carry oxygen round the body
Red blood cell
Why does the red blood cell have no nucleus
So it can carry more oxygen
Why does the red blood cell have its shape
So it has a large surface area for oxygen to enter
What does the tissue do
It is a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a function
What is a organ
It is a group of different tissues that work together to carry out a function
What is a system
It is a group of organs that work together to carry out a particular function
What does the heart do
It pumps blood round the body
What system is the heart part of
The circulatory system
What does the lung do
It breaths in oxygen and breathes out carbon dioxide
What system is the lung apart of
The respiratory system
What does the brain do
It controls the body’s functions
What system is the brain apart of
The nervous system
What does the stomach do
It helps digest food and contains acid to kill microbes
What system is the stomach apart of
The digestive
What does the liver do
Helps digest food and absorb nutrients
What system is the liver apart of
Digestive
When the arm is bent what is the bicep doing
Contracting
If the arm is straight what is the triceps doing
They are contracting
