B1 The Antigenes as a Regulator of Immune Response Flashcards

1
Q

Regulation of immune response:

A
  • Don’t react with self; recognize foreign and give an optimal response
  • Too weak: infections, too strong: diseases, amyloidosis, tumors… Regulators:
  • Antigen (quality, quantity, presentation, epitopes, route of entry)
  • Antibody (FcR, neg. feed back, anti-idiotype network) • Cytokines (Th and others)
  • Suppressor cells (T, Macrophage, etc.)
  • Neural regulation (Receptors on T and B, nerves in lymphoid organs, stress)

Q

Antigen:

A

• Quantity:
o Too little/too much
o Decreasing conc.: help to select the AB of higher affinity
• Quality:
o T independent
o Super Atg
o EC: B cells, processed IC: endogenous: Tc, exogenous: Th
o Atg competition
o Aggregation
• Presentation: MHC I, MHC II, CD I, dominant epitopes • Epitopes: conformational, linear
• Route of entry: oral, parenteral
o Induction of danger signals or without danger signals o Immune response or immune tolerance
