B1: Cells Flashcards
prokaryotic cells and give an example
An example are bacteria cells and they do not have any membrane-bound organelles or nucleus.
plasmid
small, circular DNA found in the cytoplasm
flagellum
Tail- like structure that helps move the bacterium or sperm cell move
Describe what an eukaryotic cell is and give an example
A cell which has a nucleus enclosed within a cell membrane . (animals and plant cells) and membrane bound organelles
nucleus
contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
cytoplasm
gel-like substance where chemical reactions take place (contains enzymes)
cell membrane
holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell
mitochondria
where aerobic respiration takes place (found in the cytoplasm)
ribosomes
the site of protein synthesis
cell wall
cell walls provide structure and strengthens the plant cell
permanent vacuole
contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugars and salts
chloroplast
contains the green pigment, chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis.
