B1- Cell Biology Flashcards
What are the two types of cells?
Animal and plant cells.
What organelles are in an animal cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes.
What organelles are in a plant cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes, cell wall, chloroplasts and vacuole.
What is the function of the nucleus?
contains genetic material, which controls the activities of the cell
What’s the function of the cytoplasm?
most chemical processes take place here, controlled by enzymes
What the function of cell membrane?
controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell
What the function of mitochondria?
most energy is released by respiration here
What the function of ribosomes?
protein synthesis happens here
What the function of cell wall?
Strengthens the cell
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
contain chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
What’s the function of permanent vacuole?
filled with cell sap to help keep the cell turgid (enlarged and swollen with water)
What types of cells are eukaryotic cells?
Animal cells and plant cells
What types of calls are prokaryotic?
Bacteria
What is in a eukaryotic cell?
Cell membrane
Cytoplasm
What is in a prokaryotic cell but not a eukaryotic cell?
Cell wall
No nucleus
