B1 Flashcards
What do animal cells and plant cells have in common?
They both have a Nucleus, Mitochondria, Cytoplasm and a cell membrane
What are eukaryotes and prokaryotes?
Eukaryotes are made up of complex cells and prokaryotes are made up of simple and smaller cells.
What is an electron microscope used for?
Electron microscopes allow us to see objects in much more detail such as Mitochondria’s internal structure. This gives a understanding of sub cellular structures
What are the main pieces of microscopes and what are their uses?
Eyepiece lens- see the object through the lens.
Objective lens- see the object in much more magnification.
Stage- supports the slide into
Place.
Handle- to carry the microscope.
Clips- to hold the slide in place.
Lamp- shines light through the slide.
Focusing knobs- move the stage up and down to being imagine in focus.
What is the formula for total magnification?
Total magnification = objective lens Magnification x eyepiece lens magnification
How do you work out magnification?
Magnification= image size / real size
What does DNA contain?
It contains all of an organism genetic material-the chemical instructions it needs to grow and develop.
What are the bases?
A,C,G,T
What is the DNA nucleotide structure made up of?
DNA is a polymer made up of nucleotide monomers.
What are polymers and monomers?
Polymers are large complex molecules composed of log chains of monomers joined together.
Monomers are small, basic molecular units
LEARN ABOJT ENZYMES LOCK AND KEY MECHANISM.
WATCH A VIDEO.
What is respiration?
Process of transferring energy from the breakdown of glucose.
A chemical process
Controlled by enzymes therefore rate is affected my temperature and PH
What is the equation or Respiration?
Glucose+oxygen-> carbon dioxide+water
What’s aerobic and anaerobic respiration?
Aerobic is with plenty of oxygen .
Anaerobic is without oxygen.
What elements dl carbohydrate molecules contain?
Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen
