B-part Flashcards
Brain imaging technology
technology that non-invasively study structure and functions of brain
localization
specific areas of brain responsible for specific behaviors (at least primarily)
- hippocampus: memory formation & encoding
- amygdala: regulating emotions
pre-frontal cortex: decision making/problem solving
motivation
collection of motives that drive a person
extrinsic -> external factors- rewards/punishment
intrinsic -> internal factors- personal enjoyment/interest
Social identity theory
if in close-knit group -> may develop social identity based on group
1. Categorization-> in group vs out groups -> identify which groups we belong
2. Identification -> adopting characteristics
3. Comparison -> ingroup outgroup biased comparison -> leads to ingroup favoritism
4. Ingroup favoritism -> bias towards in group & generalizing outgroups
social cognitive learning theory
we can learn behavior by observing, imitating & ,modelling others
can happen through-> vicarious reinforcement = others getting rewarded for behavior -> learn from it
MRI
create detailed images of brain-> magnetic fields & radio waves -> produces still images of brain -> diff structures and regions -> show damage, tumors, abnormalities
fMRI
brain activity -> detects changes in blood oxygen levels -> shows which areas are active during a task
