What is intraductal papilloma?
A
Warty lesion that grows within ducts in the breast

What causes intraductal papilloma?
A
Proliferation of epithelial cells

Is intraductal papilloma associated with cancer?
A
Benign tumours
Can be associated with atypical hyperplasia or breast cancer

How does intraductal papilloma present?
A
- Any age but usually 35-55s
- Nipple discharge (clear or blood-stained)
- Tenderness or pain
- Palpable lump

How are intraductal papillomas diagnosed?
A
Triple assessment
Ductography
- Injecting contrast into abnormal duct then using mammogram to visualise

What is seen on ductography in intraductal papilloma?
A
Filling defect

Q
How are intraductal papillomas managed?
A
Complete surgical excision
Tissue then examined for atypical hyperplasia or cancer that may not have been seen on biopsy
