Ethics for massage therapist.
Behaving honorably, adhering to laws, maintaining professional relationships with clients, committing to high quality, staying within the scope of practice, being client centered and service oriented.
Ethics.
The study or moral principles and appropriate conduct.
Morals
Related to the judgement of Good v.s. Bad. They are often stated in terms of virtues. Based on culture or religious standards.
Values
Convictions that an individuals considers of intrinsic worth. Based upon beliefs and attitudes. Desirable v.s. Right and correct.
Beneficence
To do that which is good or do what will further the clients interest.
Nonmalficence
To do no harm.
Professionalism
The quality of the image an individual conveys.
Code of ethics
We all have a code of ethics that we use to manage our behavior in day to day living.
Accountability
Being honest with yourself, answerable and fully responsible for what you say and do at the times.
Countertransference
Counter transference is simply transference occurring in the opposite direction, from the practitioners to the client.
Physical boundary
In american culture, when we are out in public, we prefer about an arms-length in front and in back, with a slightly smaller space on each side.
Emotional boundary
In many ways people are defined by their emotional and how they feel in the moment.
Intellectual boundary
Like emotions, a persons thoughts, beliefs and opinions help to create a world view and define an individual as different and separate from others.
Sexual boundary
The he sexual boundary can be defined in several ways and be thought of as a subset of the physical or the emotional boundaries.
Dual relationships
The term dual-relationships describe the overlapping of professional and social roles and interactions between two people.
Sequential relationships
When one set of roles completely ends before a different set of roles begins, it is called a sequential relationship.
Massage therapy scope of practice.
The manipulation of soft tissue by hand or though a mechanical or electrical apparatus for the purpose of body massage.
Clients
An individual or patron seeking or receiving massage therapy services.
Licensee
A person or entity licensed under the Act as a massage therapist, massage school, massage therapy instructor, or massage establishment.
Legal age to receive a massage
A licensee must obtain the written consent of a parent or guardian to provide massage therapy services to a person under the age of 17
Complaints
Provide name, mailing address and telephone number of the department for the purpose of directing.
- On each written contract for services of a licensee
- On a sign prominently displayed in the primary place of business of each licensee
- On a bill or service provided by a licensee to a client or third party
- By another written and documented method

Hours required
Licensee must successfully complete at least 12 hours of acceptable continuing education to renew a two year license.
